How To Create More Engaging Internal Presentations

How to Create More Engaging Internal Presentations

It’s no secret that when you’re presenting that the most important thing is to keep the room interested in what you’re saying. If the presentation, or speaker, isn’t engaging people stop listening.

So, what can you do to combat this?

Below are some simple tips you can incorporate in your next internal presentation to ensure you leave a lasting impression.

Tonality

One of the most important elements of branding is presenting a clear and consistent public face to the world. However, your external tonality can be different to that which you present internally to your employees.

When presenting internally, you have more freedom with your tone. Think less monotone language and instead, use language that will help connect you with your audience.  To keep presentations appealing, your aim internally should be to be engaging and warm. This doesn’t mean that you have to reinvent how to interact with staff, but your overall tone should be less formal and more supportive. Consider using humour where appropriate, a little bit of light-heartedness can help break up a long presentation and spike engagement levels.

Visuals

Attention spans are a lot shorter than they used to be but there are a few tricks that you can use to help make your slides more engaging. Firstly, try to use visuals, such as imagery or graphs, as much as possible. Studies have shown that visual information is processed 60,000 times faster than text! So, trust us when we say that visuals will help give context to what you are saying.

Remember, you know the relevance of what you’re saying, but try putting yourself in the position of the audience. Can everyone understand what you’re saying? Is there an image or visual you can use to reinforce it?

Content

Another key point is to focus on the content of your presentation. Make sure that your content is relevant to your audience, and that it provides information that they will find useful. For example, using headshots of staff instead of stock imagery will go a long way to elevate your presentation. It shows you have invested time and energy into your slides, which will help captivate your audience.

TIP: You can think outside the box here. It doesn’t have to have to be photos… Instead of just quoting famous people, you can also quote the things employees have said that might be more familiar to your audience. Familiarity will help create context.

Preparation

Request questions before presentation day. Not only does this help you prepare for your presentation, but it will also help you come up with an appropriate answer so you can quickly respond on the day, helping you keep within your time frame.

And, your audience are going to pay attention, right to the end, to hear the answer to the questions they have submitted.

Create a Clear Timeline

Set your start and end time – and stick to it! Setting a pace and having a set end time will help structure your presentation.

By practising your presentation beforehand, you’ll ensure that your delivery is smooth and that you cover all the key points effectively.
